Get to know me!
I have just completed my academic work for Dual Licensure in Elementary Education and Special Education at Western Govenors University. While there I was honored to be awarded the WGU Excellence Award. I am also a member of the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education.
I believe strongly in the use of established Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques. Prior to becoming a teacher I spent the last decade working with high risk, at risk and abnormally behaved students from K-12. I specialized in nonverbal Autism Spectrum Disorder, though many of my clients were verbal as well. My unique approach to ABA provided a wealth of opportunities to work along side the minds of Dr. Swartz, Manya Ralkowski (BCBA) and have had a lifetime mentor in my sister, Dr. Christina Whalen. I have found the experiences gained while in the ABA field have provided me with an innate ability to reach students across cultural, educational, and ability levels.
Having a background in ABA has allowed me to see the need for better and more regular education and special education teacher collaboration. This summer I will start my journey to achieve my Masters degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. With this it is my goal to bring more ABA into the classrooms to achieve better overall classroom management, less stress for teachers and create the absolute best in student outcomes.
